Arakurayama Sengen Park is not just a viewpoint, it’s a carefully layered landscape where history, spirituality, city life, and nature intersect in one frame. Located in Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture, the park is internationally recognised for its postcard-perfect composition: Chureito Pagoda in the foreground, Mt. What you’ll see inside the park

Chureito Pagoda

A cenotaph (memorial tower) for people from Fujiyoshida City who died in major wars, including the Sino-Japanese War, Russo-Japanese War, World War I, and the Pacific War. Construction was completed in April 1962.

Observation Deck

One of Japan’s most famous views: Mt. Fuji + Chureito Pagoda + cherry blossoms (especially in April). Safety note: An observation deck was installed in February 2022 behind Chureito Pagoda at a popular photo area.

Arakura Fuji Sengen Jinja Shrine

Built in 705, originally as the guardian deity of Arakura Village. It is traditionally worshipped for warding off bad luck, household harmony, easy delivery, and childrearing.

Sakuya-hime Stairway

A straight staircase route leading to Chureito Pagoda. Named after Princess Konohana Sakuya, a goddess associated with Mt. Fuji worship.

Arakurayama Sengen Park and Chureito Pagoda are open year-round and can be visited at any time of the day. However, the area is generally accessible from sunrise to sunset, as there are no gates or ticketed entry points.

Best time to visit:

  • Early morning: Clearer skies and fewer visitors, ideal for photography.
  • Spring (late March – mid April): Cherry blossoms line the path to the pagoda and park viewpoint.
  • Autumn (late October – mid November): The hillside turns vibrant with autumn foliage, offering clear views of Mount Fuji.

Closed:

  • The park and pagoda remain open year-round, but access may be restricted during heavy snowfall or maintenance periods.
